Path of Exile Passive Tree: Learn How to Add Points to Increase Character Power

Path of Exile Passive Tree: Learn where to allocate points

The passive tree is an indispensable element in the Path of Exile, which makes each construction method unique and special. Players can create synergy between various passive nodes that have never been used before and think about new ideas on how to use them.

In Path of Exile, every new player who opens the passive tree for the first time does not know where to add points or how to do it. The function of the game is so complicated that more experienced players are trying to find the right path through passive ability building. Read the guide to passive trees in Path of Exile below, and learn how to add points to increase your character's power.

Holy trinity

The Path of exile has three main statistics: Intelligence, Dexterity, and Strength.  Each of these statistics contributes to the power of your character. The following is the role of each statistic:

  • Intelligence (Blue): For every 2 points, adds 1 Mana and for 5 points 1% of Energy Shield.
  • Dexterity (Green): For every 2 points, adds 2 Accuracy and for 5 points 1% to Evasion.
  • Strength (Red): For every 2 points, adds 1 Life and for 5 points 1% Melee Physical Damage.

You may have noticed that when opening the character menu, Intelligence is at the top, Dexterity is at the bottom right, and Strength is at the bottom left. The same is true for passive trees. At the top of the tree, you will find intelligence-related privileges, while at the bottom, Dexterity and Strength.

Most importantly, in the skill tree, you can find all clusters of nodes that revolve around a specific weapon, mechanic, or skill. In these clusters, you will have to add multiple points to smaller nodes, and the effect is worse to unlock a larger node, which greatly improves some parts of the player's build.

Some milestones can be found in random positions around the passive skill tree. For example-Elemental overload during critical strikes improves elemental damage, and blood magic can make you spend life instead of mana on skills.

Q: How many passive skills are there in Path of Exile?

A: Characters can have up to 99 passive skill points.

Q: How many nodes does the skill tree have Poe?

A: There are currently 1384 passive skill nodes in the tree.

Q: What is a passive skill?

A: It is a skill that improves your stat passively.

Starting point

Now that you know the appearance of the passive skill tree, it ’s time to ask an important question: "What is the role of the class?" Character building may require you to choose a specific class because it starts from another position in the passive skill tree. There are many different characters builds, so not every power-based build requires you to choose Marauder, nor every intelligence-based construction revolves around a witch. The build path sometimes changes according to your choice, so make sure you also choose a character alliance.

How to Build Your First Character

As mentioned earlier, the construction of creating a build is very difficult. Various factors must be considered, such as funds, equipment, character classes, gems, goal, and so on have to be considered. Only the most experienced players can create very useful passive builds that allow them to maximize a player's potential within a game.

Take the game's currency system for example: In Path of Exile, you don't have gold or currency that you spend and then gain an item, instead, it uses a bartering system, you can buy PoE currency items. If you have the gear you don't want, you give it to a vendor, who then gives you some scraps, orbs, or other materials that are used for other things.

If you try to use the passive tree mechanism, you can perform the same operation, but remember that the effect of creating passive tree paths is not as effective as those described by players who spend a lot of time preparing them in the PoE Planner. Focus on selecting the main passive nodes, which can maximize your main weapon or crucial build mechanic.  Later, you want to see the paths to these nodes and how to benefit from the different paths.

Resetting the Build

If you want to reset your build, keep in mind that it will take a considerable amount of other resources. It is possible in the Path of Exile to erase the previously made build. It is a very expensive process, especially on the older servers. Each passive skill refund has to be done separately with the Orb of Regrets, which are the rare currency drops.

After using the game, you cannot change your character type, such as Marauder, Ranger, Witch, Duelist, etc. Therefore, if you plan to switch builds multiple times, consider choosing a Scion class that allows multiple paths constructed by combining characters.
